Uma Maheswari
Vanakkam! I'm Uma Maheswari, an Occupational Therapist with a passion for making a difference. Relocating from India has broadened my horizons and deepened my understanding of this incredible field. I truly believe that new challenges and struggles shape us—and that's exactly why I'm here: to embrace them and grow.
I chose Occupational Therapy because of its unique and holistic approach. The way we work with both the body and mind fascinates me, especially how beautifully the brain functions in its many diverse forms. I find deep fulfillment in supporting parents and educators—helping them understand how to navigate challenges with empathy, embrace differences, and help children integrate meaningfully into society.
My areas of special interest include: Sensory integration, particularly oral and vestibular processing, Self-regulation strategies, Psychological approaches to address behavioral concerns, Handwriting and Activities of Daily Living (ADL) skills. Empowering parents with customized programs, tips, and tricks to manage children in the therapist’s absence.
I’ve had the privilege of working with children with complex diagnoses such as: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Pura Syndrome, Down Syndrome, Learning Disabilities, Global Developmental Delay (GDD), Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD), Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) and Cerebral Palsy.
A little about me: I’m an eternal optimist who seeks out every bit of positivity in any situation. I’m a blend of cultures, energy, fun, and passion. I love shopping, music, and I have a special place in my heart for furry friends.
